EARTH DAY
as we celebrate our beautiful home this week, here are some simple things you can do to give back to planet earth. Remember, the earth is what you make it…
1. Cut down on waste: By using a reusable water bottle/coffee mug, or buying a mesh/cloth coffee filter for your coffeemaker you can significantly reduce the amount of waste you produce.
2. Clean your clothes smartly: Wash your laundry in cold water instead of hot and line dry as many pieces as possible (especially linens) to save energy.
3. Make your own cleaning products: Rather than products with harsh chemicals, did you know you can make your own with ingredients you most likely have around the house? Combine baking soda and vinegar then flush with boiling water to clean out clogged drains. Lemon juice is great to remove mildew and corn starch can be used to deodorize carpet.
4. Conserve Paper: Use both sides of a piece of paper in order to print things out. Instead of throwing away used paper, keep a pile of scrap to either print or write on.
5. Buy Local: By purchasing locally produced meat, produce, and dairy products you can cut down on pollution. Not only do the goods not have to travel as far (car, train, airplane pollution), but it also doesn’t need as much packaging or preservatives.
6. Use your legs: Whenever possible, walk or ride your bike. it’s better for you and it’s better for the planet! If you must drive, try to carpool and consolidate trips.
7. Know your impact: It’s good to know how green you are living. By calculating your carbon footprint you can also learn the areas in your life that could use improvement. There are a lot of tools out there, but I used footprintnetwork.org, and really like it. Test it out.

PLASTERED
I'm listening to a bunch of music while preparing for a move and a change, so I'll be sharing some of that good stuff with you. My head is spinning and I'm working on some pieces to try to calm my rattled nerves as of now. I hate when I get like this, my head is moving at a 100 and my body's telling me to slow my roll.

Anyway, here's one of the pieces I made a little while ago. This is a plaster mask crafted and painted over by yours truly. It's quite fun and simple to make actually, the plaster itself comes in a roll and you simply cut out small strips, dip in water, spread a tad, and carefully place on your face. I, of course, had some help because this task is a little tedious and you do have to work quite fast since it does dry fairly quickly. So, after completely covering your face with these wet strips, in exception of the eyes and nostrils, the strips should start to dry and come together. You can keep layering strips to make it thicker, which I'd advise because a single layer will definitely break, and then you wait for it to dry a bit before removing, which is the tough part in my opinion. I suffered a severe laugh attack while waiting for it to dry which made the plaster come off my lips and cheeks a bit, I thought this would've harmed the finished product, but luckily it was dry enough to not be affected by my jolting face muscles(slight exaggeration). After thirty minutes or so, it is safe to remove from your face and then you must let it set for about two hours. After it is hard as a shell, you may paint! I originally wanted a diamond pattern all over, but I opted for the stripes because it would be much too time consuming to paint each tiny diamond. However, I'm going make another and definitely try it out. I actually really liked the finished product, it's so neat to have a mask with your resemblance, it makes it very creepy and personal. I love it and I'd totally recommend this fun and easy project to anyone who wants to have a messy fun time! (Makes a fun gift for a girlfriend/boyfriend/mom/dad/granny/grampy too.)

Spray-Paint

I always marveled while I stood watching these seemingly other worldly talented visual street artists creating these captivating scenes in a matter of seconds before a crowd frozen in awe. I found the spray paint being applied in what seemed incoherent messy bounties along with splashing and sprinkling of different colors, plus the various heavy pot covers in different sizes all being being used and removed, replaced and traced, a little confusing at first, but I was visually hooked with the process occurring before me nonetheless. I found the creation of these pieces fascinating and wanted to try it myself so a couple of weeks ago a few good friends and I decided to try our hand at it. To our astonishment, we mastered the craft on our first attempt which , I won't lie, was incredibly exciting!! The example above is not the first painting I did, although I do have it up on my wall proudly stamped with it's birth date. In fact, feeling quite comfortable with the art, I've made a couple of different pieces now using variations of tones and colors since then. This is one example I made a couple of days ago and later gifted my younger brother, which I'm sooo happy to say he loved and hung up in his room along with all his other band posters, which is an honor truly. I'm thinking I'll make a video tutorial of this.. but I'm rather camera shy(surprisingly), so I might reconsider.
